DESCRIPTION:This week at St. Mel’s College we are celebrating College Awareness Week\, with the theme of building links with others.\nOn Monday our staff networked with students\, wearing lanyards that represented the college which they went to. This acted as a prompt whereby our student body could ask teachers about college life. On Tuesday we welcomed TYs from the local girls school to compete in a CAW table quiz. It was fantastic\, much fun was had. On Wednesday 1st years will network with our 3rd years and complete a CAW Scavenger Hunt. We are also inviting Abbott to speak to our 5th years about opportunities in STEM. On Thursday our local steel Company\, Kiernan Structural Steel will visit 6th years to do a workshop on apprenticeships. Friday we will plant our CAW tree which will represent how our student body can avail of opportunities to grow in and with their education.

DESCRIPTION:Each year Presentation Ballyphehane award two scholarships to junior cycle and senior cycle students\, worth 50€ each. The scholarship is based upon UCC’s famous Quercus scholarship. Students can be awarded for their achievements in sport\, academia\, Vounteering\, performing arts or music. This scholarship remains a strong tradition in the school\, as it is in memory of a former Guidance Counsellor\, Ms. Katrina O’Flynn.

DESCRIPTION:College Connect is a project funded by the Higher Education Authority to encourage people from under-represented groups to attend further and higher Education. The four universities involved in the initiative\, DCU\, TUS Midlands\, NUI Maynooth and DkIT\, each have a ‘College Connector’ who is tasked with reaching out to the community. \nCollege Connectors will be teaming up with local libraries to share information about the Pathways to further/ higher education and the social/ academic/ financial supports available to students. Each Connector will have a stand at local libraries during College Awareness Week and will be available to answer questions from the public.
