CAW 18 launch at St. Joseph’s Stanhope Street!
St. Joseph’s, Stanhope Street School kicked off the inaugural proceedings this College Awareness Week with an opening ceremony with speeches from Stanhope Street and TAP. Another high profile Stanhope Street alum is Joan Burton T.D who will also be giving a CAW speed during their ceremony. Amongst others, sponsors from Perrigo and the Higher Education Authority were also in attendance. The theme of St. Joseph’s event was to encourage each and every student to ‘Aim High’. The day’s celebrations will include talks from Sarah Grimson from the Trinity Access Programmes Foundation Course. These talks will be on on going to college and the alternative routes on offer.
All around the country this week over 1’000 events are firing up as CAW’s multi-organisational and collaborative campaign invited communities across Ireland to host events in schools, after-school programmes, Colleges of Further and Higher education, libraries and businesses, among others. The campaign places particular emphasis on encouraging students of all ages, and social and economic backgrounds to consider their options and to become ‘college-ready’.
We are seeing these events are flourishing throughout the country as they aim to achieve a raised level of awareness of the opportunities available and to showcase local personalities who have benefitted from further education.
Let’s not forget we had our CAW Soft launch just weeks ago with Minister of state of Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, with the help of Mick Bohan, Manager of Dublin Ladies All-Ireland winning team at Croke Park’s spectacular Skyline. Also at the launch were Clive Byrne (Director, National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals), Kathleen O’Toole-Brennan (CAW Campaign Founder, Trinity College Dublin), Caitríona Ryan, (Head of Access Policy, HEA) and Robert Willis and Ron Janish from the campaign’s main corporate sponsor, Perrigo. We’re adding many strings to our bow as our Community Mentoring programme was launch too as this week we will see the inaugural Community Mentoring visits begin during CAW.
